Donor Spotlight: Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company

Donor Spotlight: Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company

Each generous donor and partner has a special story for why they choose to support military families through NMFA. We are honored to share these stories with you.

For the team behind Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company, community isn’t about where you begin. It’s something you build, invest in, and carry with you.

That belief is deeply personal for Bev Pigeon, co-founder of Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company. Bev, her sister, and her brother-in-law all grew up as Navy children, an experience shared by three out of the brewery’s four founders. Together, they carry a lifelong understanding of movement, adaptability, and connection.

Although their roots span across countries and coastlines, Maine is the place they now call home. Like many military families, their paths were shaped by years of relocation, time spent overseas, and constant exposure to new communities, traditions, and ways of life.

That upbringing left a lasting impression.

“There are so many different ways to live your life,” Bev shared. “It doesn’t mean one way is better than the other. There’s just a variety in how people live and how they go about things.”

From an early age, Bev and her family learned how to step into unfamiliar environments, find common ground, and build relationships quickly. That perspective shaped how they see the world, and in what they chose to create.

That perspective is woven into the philosophy of Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company.

As Maine’s first dedicated gluten-free brewery, Lucky Pigeon was created to offer something that did not previously exist. More than that, it was built to be a space where people feel welcomed and included, especially those who may not have always had access to the same experiences as others.

That mindset is intentional.

“We try to keep things really wide open and be very welcoming to everyone,” Bev explained, a reflection of the openness that comes from growing up across cultures and communities.

Customers walk through the door with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and stories. What brings them together is a shared experience and a space designed to meet people where they are. It’s a reflection of the environments Bev and her co-founders grew up in, where connection was often built across differences, and community was something you learned to create, not assume.

That same perspective led Lucky Pigeon to support the National Military Family Association (NMFA), a natural fit for Bev and her co-founders. In considering where to give, they were drawn to organizations whose work felt meaningful and resonated on a personal level. “We were looking for groups that were doing something that aligned with where we came from as people or what we believed,” Bev shared.

Their decision was grounded in a clear understanding of the military family experience and the realities that shape it. Supporting NMFA offered a meaningful opportunity to invest in work that directly supports families navigating a unique and often complex way of life. “What they’re doing is a real benefit to folks,” she added.

NMFA is deeply grateful to Lucky Pigeon Brewing Company for both their business and the intention behind their giving. Their story reflects a broader truth: military families carry with them a distinct perspective shaped by movement and experience, and when they invest that perspective in the places they choose to call home, they strengthen those places in meaningful and lasting ways.

Showing up for the military community takes many forms, each contributing to something larger over time. Whether you choose to support military families through a donation to NMFA, wish to learn more about our programs, or want to share stories of those making an impact in your own community through the form below, we invite you to join us in this work.
