Resources for Military Families Impacted by Federal Layoffs

Ongoing terminations of probationary employees across federal agencies may disproportionately impact military spouses and veterans. We are asking the Administration to exempt military spouses and veterans transitioning out of active duty from these probationary layoffs, but for those who have been affected, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help navigate this challenging time.
FEDERAL EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
HEALTH PLANS
If you were enrolled in Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB), you can continue your health insurance coverage after a layoff. Contact the FEHB program for options to continue coverage under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) plan.

The VFW provides advocacy, assistance, and relief for veterans and their families, as well as financial support and services.
AMERICAN LEGION
The American Legion assists veterans and their families with various services, including healthcare, financial assistance, and legal aid.

ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEF (AER)
AER provides financial assistance to active-duty soldiers, retirees, and their families for emergencies and educational assistance.
NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY (NMCRS)
NMCRS offers financial assistance, education assistance, and other services to sailors, Marines, and their families during crises.
AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY (AFAS)
AFAS provides emergency financial assistance, education assistance, and other aid for Air Force members and Space Force Guardians, retirees, and their families.

Since 2004, NMFA has cheered on military spouses by awarding scholarships to help pay for everything from GEDs to PhDs, professional licenses and certifications, including re-licensure, business, and entrepreneurial expenses, supervised clinical hours, continuing education courses, and more.
