Operation Purple Camp Is Underway Across the Country

Across the country, Operation Purple® Camp is alive with laughter, camp songs, and new friendships.

From Alaska to North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Kentucky, and California, military kids are spending their days climbing ropes courses, swimming, singing camp songs, making friendship bracelets, and gathering around campfires. While every camp looks a little different, one thing remains the same: every child is surrounded by peers who understand military life without needing an explanation.

For military children, that kind of connection is powerful.

Throughout the summer, Operation Purple Camp brings military-connected children together for a week of adventure, confidence-building, and friendships that often last long after camp ends. Whether they’re navigating frequent moves, deployments, or long separations from a parent, campers quickly discover something many have been searching for: they’re not alone.

One camper at Camp K shared, “I felt like I fit in and got to see people who are in the same situation.” Another simply said, “They’ve been where I’ve been as far as emotions.

Across the country, campers continue to tell the same story in different words.

Knowing that others go through the same thing as me.”

The fact we can all relate and nobody feels left out.”

They understand me.

Those moments of connection don’t stop when camp ends.

Parents consistently tell us they see lasting changes when their children come home. They return with new confidence, stronger friendships, greater independence, and memories they’ll carry with them for years.

One parent shared, “Operation Purple Camp helped my daughter connect with other military children and realize she isn’t alone in her experiences. She came home with new friends, increased confidence, and memories she’ll carry with her for years.”

Another reflected on something many military families know all too well:

Our kids could be around other kids who just ‘get’ them right away. There was no need to explain that they have moved around, experienced deployments, and lived a very different life and childhood than everyone else. That is priceless.

As camps continue throughout the summer, thousands of military children are creating memories that go far beyond zip lines, canoe rides, and campfires. They’re discovering courage to try something new, confidence in themselves, and friendships built on shared experiences.

Those moments matter. They remind military kids that no matter where military life takes their family next, there’s a community that understands them.

And summer isn’t over yet.

More Operation Purple Camp adventures are still ahead, with campers continuing to laugh, explore, challenge themselves, and create memories across the country. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.
