2017 Congressional Reception

This year’s reception honors our nation’s military families and welcomes the new Members of the 115th Congress.

We’ll also recognize the recipients of our 2017 Support of Military Families Award, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Holly Petraeus and Barbara Thompson.

The Support of Military Families Award honors those individuals and organizations that through their own work or leadership have made changes that positively affect the lives of America’s military families around the globe.

Please be advised that the Department of Defense (DoD) no longer provides “blanket” Widely Attended Gathering (WAG) determinations for external events. It is our belief that the Congressional Reception qualifies as a widely attended gathering pursuant to 5 C.F.R. § 2635.204(g). This means that DoD personnel may accept our invitation if their agency determines that their presence at the reception is in the interests of their agency.  To ensure compliance with federal executive branch ethics rules, we suggest that DoD personnel consult with their supervisor or ethics advisor prior to attending. The National Military Family Association is not a lobbying organization; therefore, political appointees are eligible to accept our invitation under the widely attended gathering exception.
