Military Hospitals and Clinics

Military hospitals and clinics, known as Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), are part of the robust health care system network of care. The top priority for the MTFs is to care for active duty service members. Others may qualify to receive health care services in military hospitals or clinics, but the opportunity will be determined by the MTF Commander, based on space and the number of providers available. It is important to know that your choice of TRICARE option can affect your priority for appointments at military hospitals and clinics.

Most military hospitals and clinics have a system that gives priority for enrollment to active duty service members, active duty military family members in Prime, and then retirees and their family members in Prime. Using the MTF through TRICARE Prime has its benefits. It can be a cost saver, provide a one-stop shop for all health care services, and add to your continuity of care across specialty services in larger facilities.
