Nurse Corps (NC)
The NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program puts registered nurses (including advanced practice registered nurses and nursing faculty) on a rewarding career path. In addition, it pays off 60% of their unpaid nursing student loans in just 2 years. On top of that, if you opt for third year of service, NURSE Corps will pay for an additional 25% of the original loan balance. That’s up to 85% of one’s nursing loans!
In return, NURSE Corps participants must fulfill their service obligation working full time at one of the thousands of eligible nonprofit hospitals, clinics, nursing schools, and other facilities located in designated Critical Shortage Facilities (CSF) in the U.S. Approved CSF sites can be found in the application.
What if your service member gets orders to relocate? If relocation is required because of military orders, you would be required to find a position in your new location. NURSE Corps offers regional support to assist with this process. International relocations are not supported.
The 2016 NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program application cycle is now open and will close on February 25, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Create a NURSE Corps Application Portal Account to begin your online application!
You can apply to the for a NURSE Corps Scholarship Program if you are accepted or enrolled in a nursing degree program at an accredited school of nursing located in the U.S.:
- Associate Degree School of Nursing (ADN)
- Collegiate School of Nursing (BSN, graduate degree)
- Diploma School of Nursing
- Nursing Bridge Program (RN to BSN, RN to MSN-NP, Direct Entry MSN-NP)
The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend in return for a commitment to work at least 2 years in a medically underserved community. Learn more with this fact sheet. Applications open March 2016.
Particularly for military spouses, NURSE Corps knows situations may arise that make it difficult to complete a service commitment in one location. The application includes a contract that obligates you to serve 2 years at the Critical Shortage Facility listed in your application if you are selected to participate. If you are selected and you do not fulfill that obligation, you will face serious financial consequences. It is in your best interest to think ahead and talk with a NURSE Corps representative if you think there is a chance you would need to relocate.
