Launch of Expanded Military Spouse Employment Partnership
On Wednesday, June 29, 2011, three representatives from the National Military Family Association attended the launch of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP). MSEP is an expansion of the Army Spouse Employment Program (ASEP) where corporate America pledges to hire military spouses. ASEP was established in 2003 and has hired more than 100,000 military spouses across the nation. Our Association has advocated for a “purple” program since the inception. The expansion of MSEP is sponsored by the Department of Defense and is supported by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
At the launch event 15 new corporate partners were inducted representing a diverse array of businesses from health care, financial services, IT, universities, and even the United States Chamber of Commerce. The new partners joined more than 70 businesses that have pledged to hire military spouses, including our Association. The National Military Family Association was the first nonprofit to join the partnership. Our Association not only pledged our support to hire military spouses (which we already do), but to also serve as a mentor to other employers. We recognize the value of hiring and retaining military spouses and are able to share this experience with our corporate partners.
Partners not only pledge to hire military spouses, but also commit to retain military spouses. The partnership will be truly successful if a military spouse is able to keep a job with the same company or able to transition to a partner company in the same or similar career field.
We will monitor the development of this partnership. If you use MSEP to find a job, please let us know. Your feedback and personal experience with this new program will help us advocate for its continued success. The MSEP web portal is www.msepjobs.com.
Until military families are relieved of the weight of war, we hope you will continue to contribute to their wellbeing.
