Letters to Congress
In order to gather support for certain legislation or bills that are introduced, we write letters of support for that legislation. We may endorse it completely or we may suggest ways that the bill can be modified to better support uniformed service members and their families. We encourage you to write your members of Congress or your state legislature to support issues that you feel are important. Your voice counts! April 4, 2012Our Association strongly supports the “National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps Amendments Act of 2012.” This legislation, through the programs and provisions it authorizes, would enhance the quality of life of the officers and their families of the NOAA Commissioned Corps. November 29, 2011Our Association is strongly opposed to the consolidation of the Commissary and Exchange systems and to the elimination of the 1.3 billion dollars in appropriated funds for the Commissary. If consolidation of the commissaries and exchanges is allowed to take place, the $300 million earned to pay for MWR programs that support critical quality of life programs could go away. (More)
November 29, 2011Our Association does not support Senator McCain’s proposed amendment SA 1230, which would tie future military health care fees to an overall health care cost growth. Our proposal is that any fee increase be no greater than the percentage increase in the retiree cost of living adjustment (COLA). (More)

April 30, 2012In this letter, the Association urges Governor Abercrombie to sign the Uniform Military and Overseas Voters Act (UMOVA) into law. UMOVA will help states meet the requirements of the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act of 2009, and expand these important protections and benefits at the state and local level.

January 31, 2012Though considerable progress has been made over the past several years to help military families address their educational concerns, many issues still remain that require state cooperation. To address these transition issues, the Department of Defense, Council of State Governments, and organizations concerned with military children's education created the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. Our Association appreciates Georgia passing legislation in 2009 that mirrors some of the Compact’s provisions. Although helpful to the 42,000 military children currently residing in Georgia, unfortunately it does not protect those same military children when they leave the state. (More)
