Letter From the Chairman
Mary T. Scott, Chairman of the Board
Happy 2013! I hope this newsletter finds you settled into the new year, resolutions pursued or forgotten, and looking ahead with promise to filling your calendar with wonderful things! We expect this to be a very busy year for the National Military Family Association. With the certainty of cuts in military strength and budget, and the continuing possibility of sequestration, many military families are understandably anxious! There are so many possibilities for change, not only in military end strength, and budget support, but in where our military will be and what we will be doing. I believe we can all agree that a reprieve from constant deployments is welcome. Our service members and their families have met the challenges of war and separation for more than a decade. But, what comes next? Uncertainty can be almost as unsettling as knowing when the next deployment will be.
We are keenly aware of the anxiety that many of our military families are experiencing. We also know that deployments of many kinds, either as individual augmentees, or as units will continue, even at a much reduced pace in smaller numbers. In our mission to help support and strengthen military families, particularly in these tough and uncertain times, our Association developed MyMilitaryLife.
Much of our focus in 2012 was dedicated to developing the app, making it available, and continually providing content. MyMilitaryLife is divided into life paths, so military families may select the path with information they need, when they need it. Whether a family is moving, having a baby, approaching deployment, or retiring, reliable, helpful information is literally at their fingertips! We currently feature six life Paths, with five more in development. Another important feature, available within the next few months, will allow military spouses to share information about programs that work for them. We believe personal recommendations will be enormously helpful to families as they relocate and as their needs grow and change. The app is like a living organism. It requires care and feeding, and we are dedicated to its growth and relevancy. Our objective is to provide reliable information to families when they need it, and how they want to receive it. Our goal is that MyMilitaryLife become an indispensable tool to all military families.
Many thanks to all of you who support our Association and our mission to help strengthen and support military families. This is sure to be a busy year, full of challenges and continuing uncertainty. With your support and awareness, and with tremendous programs such as MyMilitaryLife, Operation Purple®, and military spouse scholarships, our mission is surely attainable! Together we’re stronger.
