Our Volunteers are liaisons between the military families in their communities and the Association. The main responsibility for our Volunteer Corps is to actively take part in community outreach.
Position Descriptions
Volunteer The primary role of Volunteers is to support the mission of the Association and to provide communication between the Association and military communities worldwide. Volunteers serve the families of the seven uniformed services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in various aspects on behalf of the Association. Activities are dependent upon qualifications and interest level. All new applicants begin as Volunteers unless otherwise recommended.

Representative Representatives identify, monitor, and report issues that affect the families of the seven uniformed services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-. This is done, in part, by reporting local issues and concerns monthly or when requested, by performing demographic studies, and completing departmental questionnaires and surveys. Appointment to this position requires a recommendation from an employee of the Volunteer Services Department.

Community Outreach
Volunteers engage in community outreach by:
- Attending local community events to provide information and promote the Association
- Working as a liaison between the Association and the local community
- Giving Association presentations to organizations and leaders
- Recruiting new Volunteers and building area teams
- Working with military and state liaisons in support of military families
- Reporting on best practices and community concerns

Additional Volunteer Opportunities
No matter where you live, you can take part in additional volunteer opportunities we offer to our Volunteer Corps.
Writer Write for our Association newsletter and website. A writing sample is required and the Association Rules for Writing must be followed.
Virtual Volunteer Monitor, review, and test various websites, blogs, and forums. This may be performed under the guidance of other departments.
Researcher Research topics related to military families, community organizations, and community leaders.
Volunteer Recruiter Contact identified organizations and leaders to create recruitment buzz on behalf of our Association.
Additional Volunteer Opportunities for the DC Metro Area ONLY
The following opportunities are ONLY available for those who are living in the DC Metro area. These opportunities may require travel to a DC Metro area location or to our Headquarters office in Alexandria, VA.
Special Events Volunteer Assist at Association functions with planning and preparation before, during, and after events. Events are limited opportunities.
Clerical Volunteer Perform needed office duties, such as reception, filing, data entry, shredding, and packing and mailing of supplies.
