TRICARE Releases Details on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Pilot Program
Recently, TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) released updates to the TRICARE Operations Manual, including details on the Department of Defense ABA Pilot for Non-Active Duty Family Members (NADFMs). Section 705 of National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 authorized a one year pilot to provide for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, including ABA. The pilot expands ABA coverage to military retirees and their dependent family members. It begins July 25, 2013.
In addition to releasing the ABA Pilot details, TMA announced comprehensive changes to autism services coverage across the TRICARE Program, including changes to the TRICARE Basic Program and the Extended Care Health Option (ECHO) Autism Demonstration. Our Association is contacting TMA to get specifics on how families will be affected by these changes and how TRICARE plans to communicate the policy revisions to beneficiaries. We will provide another update as soon as we obtain additional information.
Until military families are relieved of the weight of war, we hope you will continue to contribute to their wellbeing.
