TRICARE Announces Future Changes to Prime Service Areas (PSAs)

TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) announced its decision to reduce TRICARE Prime Service Areas (PSAs). This will start October 1, 2013. Active Duty service members and their families, along with activated National Guard and Reserve members, will NOT be affected by this change.

Pharmacy Copayments to Increase

Now that the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 has been signed into law by President Barack Obama, TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) will be increasing TRICARE beneficiaries’ pharmacy copayments. According to TMA, this change “will be effective sometime in February.” (More)

It’s Not Too Late to Get a Flu Vaccine

Military families have many options for the flu vaccination and eligible TRICARE beneficiaries can receive a flu vaccine for free. According to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some areas of the county may have peaked for the height of flu season, while other parts of the country are still on the upswing.

President Signs Defense Authorization Bill

President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act for FY13 (NDAA FY13) on January 2, 2013. The bill contains provisions for a 1.7% pay raise, enhancements for military spouse employment programs, funding for supplemental impact aid for schools educating military children and enhanced consumer credit protections for service members and their families. Kicking the Fiscal Cliff Can Into the New Year

Among the fireworks and celebration that ushered in the New Year were the sounds of late-night Congressional votes and a can being kicked down the road. In a last-minute deal, Congress and President Obama agreed to fix, avoid, or delay the worst effects of the mix of tax increases, spending cuts, and Medicare doctor payment cuts that together came to be known as the “fiscal cliff.” (More)

A Safe Place for Our Kids is Expected

We find the allegations of abusive behavior by staffers at the Fort Myer Child Development Center appalling. Additional reports that more than thirty CDC staff members have criminal records are extremely concerning. The safety of our military children must be our highest priority. (More)

Licensure Victory for Military Spouses in Arizona

The state of Arizona will authorize temporary admission of qualified spouses of military service members to the practice of law in Arizona while the military service member is stationed in Arizona. This will go into effect on January 1, 2013.
