Fisher House Foundation Hero Miles
The Hero Miles program, administered by the Fisher House Foundation, provides free round-trip airfare to wounded, ill, and injured service members and/or their family members, who are undergoing treatment at a military or Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center. This service also allows service members and their family members to attend authorized events.
The two categories of recipients include:
- Service members with approved leave may be given a round-trip ticket from the medical center to their home or authorized event if they are not eligible for government funded airfare.
- Service members may be given a round-trip ticket for their family or close friend to visit them while they are treated at the medical center.
Requests for tickets must originate from the service member and will be directed to the Fisher House Foundation by a social worker, family assistance center personnel, or the Service causality offices. Family members can contact Fisher House Foundation about Hero Miles, but only under exceptional circumstances.
The Hero Miles program is made possible through donated frequent flyer air miles. Fisher House Foundation has partnerships with AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, United Airlines, and U.S. Airways. Please visit the How to Donate Miles page on the Fisher House Foundation website.
Fisher House Foundation has created comfort homes at military and VA medical centers where families stay for free while a loved one is receiving treatment. The Foundation ensures that families of service members wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan are not burdened with unnecessary expenses during a time of crisis.
Until military families are relieved of the weight of war, we hope you will continue to contribute to their wellbeing.
