Department of Defense Launches Summer Reading Program

With summer vacation quickly approaching, parents may become concerned about the effect the break will have on their children’s academic progress. According to the National Summer Learning Association, research shows that students who do not practice their reading skills over the summer may fall behind their classmates by the time school starts again. To help alleviate this problem, the Department of Defense is launching its fourth annual summer reading program.

Called “Have Book – Will Travel,” the summer reading program is a fun way to introduce children of all ages to new books and help them keep reading over the summer months. The program will operate at libraries on installations worldwide and will feature prizes and other incentives to encourage students to participate. Students can sign up at their installation library or online. To find the library on your installation, visit the Department of Defense installation directory.
