Connect to TRICARE with Your Mobile Device

More and more Americans have devices that allow them to access the Internet on the go. A recent study revealed that more than half of all U.S. adults own a smartphone while just over one-third own a tablet. Understanding this trend, TRICARE has developed a variety of mobile applications and mobile optimized sites for military families.

Many beneficiaries already visit the TRICARE website when they need health care information. Now you can easily access the site on the go with your mobile device. You don’t need to do anything special. The TRICARE website recognizes that you are visiting from a mobile device and will automatically present you with the mobile optimized site, making it easier to find the information you need.

Each of the TRICARE regional contractors also has its own mobile site or app. TRICARE is managed in three separate regions within the United States: North, South, and West. TRICARE has partnered with contractors in each region to provide you with health care services and support beyond what is available at military hospitals and clinics. Health Net Federal Services is the contractor for the North Region. Humana Military is the contractor for the South Region while UnitedHealthcare is the contractor for the West Region.

Health Net and Humana operate mobile optimized sites that allow beneficiaries to locate TRICARE authorized providers and access resources such as contact information, benefits information and eligibility. You can google the contractor’s name together with the word “mobile” (e.g., Health Net Federal Services mobile) and the mobile optimized site will appear in your Google results list.

In the West Region, UnitedHealthcare has a mobile app called “Optumize Me” that encourages healthy lifestyles by letting users challenge other users to health and fitness goals using their smartphones. OptumizeMe lets users track their own progress and post the results to Facebook.  West Region beneficiaries can download OptumizeMe from iTunes or the Google Play store.

The TRICARE pharmacy contractor, Express Scripts, Inc., offers both a mobile site and an app called Express Rx. These allow beneficiaries to get benefit information, start home delivery of their prescriptions, check order status, order prescription refills, and find a nearby network pharmacy. Beneficiaries must register with Express Scripts before using the mobile site by going to the activation page of the Express Scripts website.

These mobile options make it easier than ever for beneficiaries to access information on the go. If you are mobile user, please check out the National Military Family Association’s MyMilitaryLife app. Features include customized to-do lists, tailored suggestions for your Service branch, location and needs, and notices of new programs. You can download MyMilitaryLife free from iTunes or the Google Play store.
