Attention! Walgreens is no longer in the TRICARE Network

Walgreens is no longer a part of the TRICARE retail pharmacy network as of January 1, 2012. Beneficiaries impacted include those who are currently using Walgreens to fill their medication prescriptions or those who occasionally use Walgreens for services, such as a seasonal flu shot.

What does this mean for the beneficiary? It means, when you use an out-of-network retail pharmacy, you will have to pay 100 percent of the prescription(s) costs and submit a paper claim for non-network reimbursement. This could be very expensive depending on the type of medication. TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) is recommending/encouraging beneficiaries impacted by this change to transfer your prescriptions.

Beneficiaries can find another network retail pharmacy by going to Express Scripts, Inc. website: www.express-scripts.com/TRICARE/pharmacy. For information on how to enroll in TRICARE Home Delivery, visit: www.express-scripts.com/TRICARE and click on the pill bottled located next to TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery. Walgreens is also assisting beneficiaries with their prescription transfers. They have set up a number for beneficiaries to call at: 1.800.Walgreen. They are also helping beneficiaries that come to a Walgreen’s pharmacy to locate another local TRICARE network pharmacy, ensuring the prescription is refilled/filled quickly.
