Military Spouses Can Now Apply for Scholarships Through the National Military Family Association

December 2, 2014 — The National Military Family Association is now accepting applications for its 10th annual military spouse scholarship and professional funds program. About 300 scholarships, averaging around $1000, will be awarded to military spouses pursuing professional certification, licensure, training, required clinical supervision for mental healthcare professionals, associate’s, bachelor’s , master’s and doctorate degrees.

The National Military Family Association and Discovery Communications Team Up this Veterans Day to Honor the Families Who Serve Too

November 7, 2014 — NMFA and Discovery Communications are teaming up for three Veterans Day events in New York City to support military families. The events include a float in the annual “America’s Parade,” as well as a fundraiser reception and comedy show. The 15th annual “America’s Parade” on Veterans Day, hosted and produced by the United War Veterans Council, features more than 600,000 spectators and is broadcast nationwide. This year’s parade will travel along the iconic 5th Avenue in New York City and feature more than 240 floats and 20,000 participants.

Entrants can nominate anyone associated with the United States military – whether it’s an active service member, a veteran or a member of a military family who serves by supporting their military member from the home front.

Military Family Advocates Respond to Report that 1 in 4 Military Families Rely on Food Banks

August 18, 2014 — National Military Family Association (NMFA), a nonprofit that works to strengthen and protect military families, responded today to the results of Feeding America’s newly released report on hunger. The report says that 14% of American households rely on food banks, but when it comes to the military, that number is 25%-- which translates to 620,000 families.

United Health Foundation Gives $100,000 Grant to Support Military Spouses Pursuing Mental Health Careers

January 21, 2014 — NMFA announced it has received a $100,000 grant from United Health Foundation. The grant will enable the Association to provide financial support to military spouses working to complete clinical licensure requirements in the mental health profession.
